Once on This Island Jr. Opens this Week
Tickets for the spring musical are now on sale, for $10, all seating general admission. See the da Vinci website for links to tickets on SchoolPay. Tickets can also be purchased at the door.
Is your student in the show? 
  • Please make sure you are aware of all call times and check  Ms. Accuardi’s website for information. 
  • Volunteers needed! With seven shows and over 100 students in the production, we need help for each one. Please sign up. 
  • Thanks to the families that contributed snacks throughout the rehearsal days. 
  • Call times are generally 1.5 hours before the show times and students should leave campus until call time. We cannot supervise students between the end of the school day and call time. 
  • Are you able to pay the Materials Fee? The suggested $25 helps cover the licensing fee and production costs. 
  • Invite your friends to come see the show! It's going to be fantastic. 


The 2019-2020 da Vinci Yearbook is on sale now on SchoolPay 
Please use SchoolPay to pre-purchase your yearbook. Yearbooks will be distributed on the last day of school. We welcome photo submissions! If you have any great shots from this year, please contact Daniel Menche at dmenche@pps.net for a link to the Google drive to upload or you can email photos directly to him.

Sponsored by Mt. Tabor MS and Glencoe ES PTAs, the final event in this series is March 5th at Taborspace, 5441 SE Belmont St. from 5:30 - 8 pm. The topic is Racism and Education in Portland Public Schools. Pizza and childcare are available on request.

Here’s the last call for parents and guardians to complete this survey. Your responses will help us understand your experience and set goals for next year. The survey  covers topics on school safety, school climate, barriers to family engagement, racial equity and inclusion as well as how well your school fits your student’s needs. Cleveland Cluster Track & Field
There is still time for you to sign up for CHS cluster Track & Field. 
Please register by Friday March 6th. 
Monday March 9th is our first practice. Cleveland Field. SE 34th and SE Powell. 4:30 pm
Note that da Vinci students interested in Track & Field or any other PIL sport participate with the high school cluster where they live. See the website for contacts and details by cluster.

Tickets for the spring musical are now on sale and a signup for volunteers is posted. There are seven shows and help is needed for each one. Tickets are $10. See the da Vinci website for links to tickets on SchoolPay. Tickets can also be purchased at the door. 

Ashland Trip 
Seventh and eighth graders interested in this year's Ashland Trip can pick up an application in the main office. The application must have a parent/guardian signature, the signatures of student's language arts, math, social studies, and science teachers, and a copy of grades from Synergy showing B+/PR's in their classes. Applications are due in the office by 3:30 pm on Friday, Feb. 28. No late applications will be accepted,not even for illness or absence. If you have any questions, please email Ms. Wasson: swasson@pps.net.

Library News
Congratulations to our new school OBOB champions, The Morningstarrs. They will be representing da Vinci at regionals on Saturday March 7th at Arleta K-8 in southeast Portland. Team members include Sebastian Kolwitz, Zayd Faruqui, Berkeley Sherman and Feodor West. At regionals their alternate will be Nala Day.  Check out more OBOB information and photos on the library website.

“Angst” Showing 2/5/19 Please join us for a PTSA-sponsored screening of the acclaimed film Angst: Anxiety is treatable- it’s okay to say. You can order your tickets online now or buy them at the door. 
This documentary delves into the growing epidemic of tween and teen anxiety as well as discusses powerful ways kids (and adults) can cope. 
 
Tickets are $5 each, pay what you can, or free for those that paying is a hardship. Funds go to offset the Angst licensing fee. Doors open at 6 pm, screening begins promptly at 6:30 pm, Wednesday, February 5, 2020. Contact Sarah Vanbuskirk, slvanbuskirk@gmail.com with any questions or if you can help at the event.

PPS Calendar for 2020 - 2021 Approved Mark your calendars now for fall dates, here is the approved calendar for the next school year. 
The da Vinci Green Team is BACK! If your student is interested in sustainability and working on "Green" projects at school, please talk to them about joining the da Vinci Green Team! This group will focus on projects on-campus to improve the sustainability of our school such as reducing cafeteria waste (disposable forks, trays), rain garden, solar roof, and classroom recycling. Students will learn about the challenges facing our planet while taking action in their school.
The Green Team will meet in Mr. Heiggelke's science class (room 105) at lunch on Fridays, facilitated by da Vinci mom and Eco-School Network member, Sasha Rose. If you have questions or would like to be involved as a parent volunteer, please contact: Sasha.Rose.PDX@gmail.com
Spring Jazz Band will begin on Wednesday, February 5th from 3:30-4:45 in the music room. All students who know how to read music are welcome to attend.  

Trogdor Auditions for the spring will be held on Thursday, February 6th at 3:30 in the Music Building. If you have questions please contact Mr. Gerolami or Mz. Daley. 

Parking and Traffic Reminders Please be cautious and courteous during drop off and pick up in front of the school. A parent recently reported a hit and run on her car during drop off when a car pulled out from the curb too close. Please reserve the parking places in the back that are marked for those with a Handicap Permit and those for Alternative Fuel cars. If you are sitting and waiting, please turn off your car.
