Courageous Conversations/PTSA, January 17 at 7:00 pm
Join us for an informal conversation about anti-racism efforts in our community. The PTSA will conduct their usual business from 6:30 - 7:00 and then open the usual meeting time to this important topic. It is suggested that folks read the following article as a starting point to prepare for the discussion: White Anti-Racism: Living the Legacy. From the Teaching Tolerance website, it is a thoughtful and engaging text that offers multiple perspectives and entry points. Please come if you are interested in furthering the work on honoring diversity and inclusion at da Vinci.

Geography Bee Friday
We’ll have a special schedule and all students will attend an assembly to witness 15 students compete in our own Geo Bee. Did you know that the Great Wall of China is held together partly by sticky rice? It's weird but true! China is located on which continent?  Well, that is an example of a question that may appear in this year’s Geography Bee.

Congratulations to the following students who will be representing their classes: Henry Boyer, Felix Cohen, Taz Kern, Ben Dunfee-Hall, Nick Berkson, Holland Swan, Enzo Ungar-Gutierrez, Theo Erz, Nancy Malone Martin-Ptacin, Jascha Stern, Leah Abramson-Slater, Shea Stephens, Raya Vinar, Liam Kay and Leo Greenblatt.

Kicking off the da Vinci Auction!
SAVE THE DATE
This year's auction will be April 15, 2018 at Bodyvox.  If you haven't been to a da Vinci auction before, you haven't experienced the best type of auction.  Our low-key event allows you to find some great items area businesses have donated and best of all, you get to enjoy first-rate performances from our own students.

Fundraising by the Foundation and PTSA are critical in supporting our programs that make da Vinci such a wonderful learning environment for our children. The success of our annual auction is a key component in the plan for both the PTSA and the Foundation. Funds this year are currently targeted to support the following:

Staffing to include Dance, African Drumming, Tech Support and a section of English Language Arts.
Giving ALL our teachers extra budget support for classroom materials.
Providing robust funding for our visual and performing arts programs.
Purchasing library books and providing funding for our annual Literary Magazine.

2018 SPONSORS
Sponsors are key to successfully reaching our fundraising goals.  We are looking for a Sponsorship Chair as well as more sponsors.  Please connect with our Auction Chair, Beth Woods, for more information on being a sponsor or to volunteer to lead this important area.

Barista - Barista has been a strong supporter of da Vinci through the years and we are thankful to have them continue with us in 2018.  Barista serves exceptional coffees from the world's finest roasters, prepared by the most skilled baristas in Portland, Oregon!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Whether you have an hour or many hours, our auction team could use your time and skills. Please take a look at our sign up form to see how you can help.  Everyone makes a huge difference in the success of our event.  Right now we specifically need a team of people to follow up on donation requests and a sponsorship chair.
